That Month I Upgraded My Whole Life (With the Help of Maya)
I did not expect that specific month to turn into one of the most expensive months I have had in a while. In my head, I was only planning one purchase. I wanted to upgrade my work setup after landing a new job as a social media manager. That alone already felt like a big decision.
But life had other plans. Life happens.
One by one, the things I relied on every day started giving up. My TV stopped working. My aircon followed not long after. What began as a simple gadget upgrade turned into a full refresh of both my home and my workspace. Looking back, I was not just replacing old things. I was investing in the way I live, the way I work, and the space I come home to every day.

It Started With My Condo
I have been living in this condo for almost ten years now. Most of the appliances here were never really mine to begin with. My parents gave them to me when I first moved in, and I never had a reason to think about replacing any of them. They simply worked, so I never had to.
Until they didn’t.
My old Samsung TV suddenly went black one night and never turned back on. A few days later, my split type aircon started blowing warm air no matter how low I set the temperature. If you live in Cebu, you know that is not something you can ignore for very long.
Those were definitely not upgrades. They were replacements. I might have to say it is a milestone in adulthood. The things my parents once bought for me had reached the end of their life, and now it was my turn to replace them myself. There was not much to think about. When something you use every day stops working, you find a way to make it work again.
A Long Time Coming
Unlike my TV and my aircon, the iPad Pro was not replacing anything. It had been on my wishlist for a long time.
My MacBook Air M1, which I bought back in 2021, was still working. It never completely failed me. But after years of editing videos, writing blog posts, creating content, and juggling multiple apps every day, I could tell it was not keeping up the way it used to.
Around the same time, I also started a new role as a social media manager. My workload grew almost overnight. I was managing brand accounts while still creating content for my own platforms, filling my days with video edits, content calendars, graphics, and one too many browser tabs. I needed a setup that could actually keep up with me.
So when my TV and aircon needed replacing within the same month, I figured I might as well plan everything together instead of stretching the purchases out over several months.

Making It Work
I had savings, but I did not want to spend all of it at once.
Replacing two appliances while also investing in a new work device meant spending a significant amount in a very short period. Even if I could cover most of it, doing so would leave me with very little afterward. I have always believed savings should stay savings whenever possible. You never know when the next unexpected expense will come along.
That is when I started looking at other options.
My Experience With Maya Easy Credit
I already had the Maya app on my phone, and I had used Maya Easy Credit before. So when I realized I was a little short on the funds I needed for everything I wanted to buy, it was one of the first options I checked.
What made it convenient for me was that I was already pre-qualified.
I could see my available credit in the app, and instead of going through a long process again, I was able to use the credit available to me and transfer the funds to my Maya Wallet.
It was honestly that straightforward.
I did not have to go somewhere else or spend hours filling out paperwork. I was able to access the credit through the app and use it to add to the money I had already saved.
That was important to me because I was not trying to fund everything through credit. I already had savings. I simply needed to fill the gap without completely wiping out my funds.
Maya Easy Credit is a virtual revolving credit line, which means eligible users can use it for short-term needs and repay it before using their available credit again. Eligible users can borrow up to ₱50,000 through Maya Easy Credit. It can also be used directly for certain purchases or transferred to your Maya Wallet when you need extra funds. Maya says approval is subject to credit evaluation, and the applicable service fee can vary depending on the user’s credit history and will be shown in the app.
For me, the biggest thing was the convenience.
I needed extra funds at that moment, I already had access to Maya Credit, and I could move the funds into my wallet without making the process more complicated than it needed to be.
If You Are New to Maya Easy Credit
If you have never used Maya Easy Credit before, the experience can be a little different from mine because eligibility and approval are still subject to Maya’s credit evaluation.
But the good thing is that you can check directly in the Maya app if the feature is available to you.
Maya Easy Credit is designed as a virtual credit line for smaller expenses and short-term cash flow gaps. You can use it for eligible transactions through Maya, or transfer the available credit to your Maya Wallet when you need the funds there.
I think that is useful to know, especially if you are someone who has never used a credit line before.
You do not have to think of the available credit as free money. It is still something you borrow and need to repay. For me, the important part was knowing exactly how much I needed, checking the applicable fees and repayment terms, and making sure the amount I used would fit into my budget.
That is also something I would tell anyone trying Maya Credit for the first time.
Check your available credit. Understand the fees. Know when you need to pay it back. And most importantly, only use what you actually need.
Another Option: Maya Personal Loan
For bigger expenses, Maya also offers Maya Personal Loan, which is designed for larger financial needs with longer repayment terms. You can borrow up to ₱400,000, with repayment terms of up to 48 months. I did not use this for my purchases, but it is another option worth knowing about if you need a larger amount and prefer to spread your payments over a longer period.
For me, Maya Easy Credit made more sense for this particular situation because I already had available credit and only needed to add to the funds I had saved.
That distinction is important. Maya Easy Credit was what I actually used, while Maya Personal Loan is simply another option available depending on your needs and eligibility.
The Upgrades
With my savings and Maya working together, I finally completed everything on my list.
The biggest purchase was the 13 inch iPad Pro with 1 terabyte of storage, worth 135,705 pesos. I do everything with it now like editing videos at home, reviewing content in a café, or managing socials while out running errands. It has quickly become one of my favorite tools.
Next was an LG dual inverter split type aircon from Abenson, worth 32,695 pesos. It even came with free installation, which made the purchase feel even more sulit. After weeks of working in a warm room, having a comfortable space again made a bigger difference than I expected.
Finally, I replaced my old TV with a new LG television worth around 16,000 pesos.
Three purchases. Two were necessary. One had been sitting on my wishlist for years.
Borrow Smart
One thing I always remind myself whenever I borrow money is that convenience should never replace responsibility.
Maya made the process simple, but that did not mean I borrowed more than I needed. Before applying, I looked at my monthly income, my existing expenses, and exactly how much I was comfortable paying every month. I only borrowed what made sense for my budget.
That is the best way to approach any loan, in my opinion. Borrow because it solves a real need, not simply because the money is available. Having quick access to funds is genuinely helpful, especially when life throws several unexpected expenses your way all at once. The important part is making sure you can comfortably pay everything back.

Looking Back
When I think about that month, I do not immediately think about how much I spent. I think about finally having a workspace that matches where I am in my career right now. I think about coming home to a cool room after a long day. I think about finally replacing the things that had served me well for almost a decade.
What started as a plan to upgrade one device turned into something much bigger. It became a reminder that growing up sometimes looks like replacing the things that carried you through one chapter, so you are ready for the next.
And when life decided all those upgrades had to happen at once, I am grateful Maya helped me bridge the gap without having to empty my savings. It gave me the flexibility to move forward while still keeping my finances in check.
Mabilis mag loan sa Maya. Sometimes, that is exactly the kind of support you need.
